Why bother… Why bother sacrificing anything…? When chocolate tastes so good and sex feels so good why give them up? Why even contemplate it? Why is it SO vital to look at what we’re consuming and why, and how, we’re ingesting and digesting it—or not!
Because they can be—and most often are— obstructions to Divinity and the natural flow of existence. They can stifle our hearts true desires and block our souls evolution under the guise of “entertainment”, but actually serve to distract us from the deep work. And in turn, keep us stuck in cyclical suffering, Bhavacakra - the wheel of Samsara, perpetuating habitual and addictive patterns of behaviour usually with negative and destructive results for ourselves, and those around us. It is imperative that we look closely at where our time, energy and attention goes on a daily basis. Moment-to-moment, if we are not consciously aware of what’s governing our movements, we are functioning mechanically, autonomically, from a dysfunctional operating system that has us creating more of the same, and perpetuating the pain.
So why do too few brave the mirror and examine: “why do I spend so much time on my phone, or in front of a screen?” “Why do I eat so much processed and unhealthy food?”
And why don’t we give up what we know are bad habits that no longer serve us? What’s the pay off? And what happens when we feel we simply can’t…?
